TU Clausthal offers a BEM to all employees who have been unable to work for more than a total of six weeks within a year.
In individual cases, the BEM can also be offered to employees who have not yet been incapacitated for work for 6 weeks. The decision is made by the BEM integration team in a joint dialog.
Participation in the BEM procedure is voluntary and strictly confidential!
The aim is to uncover a possible connection between the working environment and illness and to enable healthy working.
Determination of incapacity for work
If you have been repeatedly or continuously absent due to illness for more than six weeks in the last 12 calendar months, the BEM procedure will be initiated and the BEM coordinator will make initial contact with you.
In individual cases and with the employee's consent, the BEM can also be offered if the employee has not yet been unable to work for 6 weeks.
Initial contact
You will receive a letter from our BEM coordinator informing you about the BEM. You will also find out what the objectives are, who should or can be involved in the process and how important your participation is.
If you are not willing to participate in the BEM, the BEM procedure ends at this point. Otherwise, an appointment will be made for an information meeting.
Procedure of the BEM information meeting
In an initial information meeting with a member of the integration team and, if applicable, a person of trust of your choice, the possibilities of BEM are explained to you, any fears are allayed, questions are answered and the next steps are discussed. A member of the staff council, a colleague, your own doctor or even your spouse, for example, can be consulted as a person of trust.
With your consent, this meeting can take place during your incapacity for work or, if you wish, after you have returned to work. Participation in the information meeting is voluntary. You also have the option of terminating the BEM at any time after the information meeting.
BEM case discussion(s)
In one or more further meetings with the integration team and, if necessary, other stakeholders (e.g. company doctor), further steps are agreed and possible measures, including any necessary funding, are discussed and planned and implemented with the consent of those involved.
Implementation and monitoring of the measures
The defined measures are implemented by the relevant institutions or parties involved. The BEM coordinator discusses and monitors the implementation of the measures.

The content of the interview and personal data will be treated in strict confidence.
No diagnoses of illness or information on the probable development of incapacity for work may be collected.
The employee decides to whom which information about their state of health or personal circumstances is disclosed. They are not obliged to disclose the diagnosis of the illness. In most cases, however, the BEM procedure can only be carried out sensibly if the restrictions at the workplace resulting from the illness are known.
The integration team is subject to a duty of confidentiality. Violations constitute breaches of obligations under employment contracts or employment law.
The procedure is documented by the BEM coordinator. The employee has the right to inspect the documentation at any time. Insofar as health-related data is recorded, this remains exclusively with the company doctors.
